College Bound Scholars

Investing In Your Future

The College Bound Scholars program is an exciting and unique community partnership between Las Positas College, the LPC Foundation and the Tri Valley community. Their families support their dreams...this program gives them the opportunity to turn their dreams into reality.

What is College Bound Scholars?

Beginning in the 6th grade to college "pipeline" program designed for first generation college students.

The College Bound Scholars program is for middle school students who will participate in experiences designed to enhance their success in secondary school and advance to higher education.  Components of the program are financial assistance, mentoring from Las Positas College faculty, staff and community members, and activities over the years to support families and students as they progress toward college.

Who are the Scholars?

Middle school students from Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore compete for a bi-annual scholarship and will be exposed to opportunities that will enhance their long term higher educational goals.

Each student will:

  • Be paired with a college or community mentor who will work with them from the 6th grade to college entrance
  • Recieve a Scholarship invested in their name now and applied to their college admissions to help with college expenses
  • Participate in cohort and family activities and programs designed to show that college attendance is a realistic and attainable goal

NEWS Notables......

CALIFORNIA MENTORING MONTH

Governor Schwarzenegger proclaimed January 2010 as California Mentoring Month.

It reads, in part:

Mentors are role models, teachers, advisors and inspirations to the young people they serve. Research shows that mentoring relationships have a significant positive impact on youth, including greater success in school and a reduced likelihood that they will use drugs or alcohol. I encourage the people of California to get involved in mentoring and witness firsthand the difference it can make as you coach, tutor or participate in other positive activities with our youth. To those already serving as mentors, I applaud you for your commitment to the rising generation. Your investment in their future has a powerful influence on them and on our state.

Become a mentor!
