Men Finish 2nd in Conference

11/1/07

Men's XC Running at Coast Conference Meet
The Las Positas College men finished 2nd out of eight teams in the Coast Conference Finals for the 2nd year in a row. Many of the competing colleges are much bigger with much larger sports programs, but LPC held their own. The team is now ranked 5th in Northern California and will advance The team will now advance to the Nor-Cal Championships to be held on November 3, 2007. Ivan Medina finished 2nd (and he received a medal) in the race running an excellent tactical race from start to finish. Only one other runner from LPC (Jerron Clark- 1st place 2004) has finished higher in the standings than Ivan. The top 14 runners receive a medal and LPC had 4 runners receive "All Conference Team" awards. Juan, Joey and Tristan all received medals and ran great races. The LPC runners times and team scores are as follows:
2 IVAN MEDINA SO LAS POSITAS 21:57
5 JUAN GOMEZ SO LAS POSITAS 22:29
6 JOEY NUNES SO LAS POSITAS 22:31
14 TRISTAN BLAIR FR LAS POSITAS 23:00

Men Take Top Finish at Lou Vasquez

Posted 9/28/07

Our men finished 4th out of a field of 20 teams. The men were the 1st team in LPC history to rank 1st in our conference in a large meet like this one (4th in the meet overall, yet 1st team in from our Coast Conference). Joey Nunes (Liv. HS) again earned a shirt for top 14 and he moved into the 2nd fastest spot on the all-time list for the SF course. Tristan Blair (Cal HS) at 22:27 and Jag Kalirai (Dublin HS) at 22:47 set PRs (personal record) for the four miles. Times for the September 27, 2007 race:

9th JOEY NUNES SO LAS POSITAS 20:59 5:12 per mile
18 IVAN MEDINA FR LAS POSITAS 21:28 5:19
24 JUAN GOMEZ SO LAS POSITAS 21:39 5:22
52 TRISTAN BLAIR FR LAS POSITAS 22:27 5:34
65 JAGBIR KALIRAI SO LAS POSITAS 22:47 5:39
98 ROSS MOLLENKOPF SO LAS POSITAS 23:51 5:55
124 ALEX BLUE FR LAS POSITAS 25:03 6:12
129 JOHN YERSAK FR LAS POSITAS 25:20 6:17
152 ADAM SHAMOUEL SO LAS POSITAS 28:25 7:02

So, we are currently ranked 4th in Nor-Cal. And 1st in the Coast Conference!

Although the women did not finish as high in the standings they were all set Personal Records for their 5K race. They are all freshman and they are working hard to get better (and they all have a great attitude). All of our students carry 12 to 20 units and 80% work while training and competing.

Men Win Mills Invitational AGAIN

Posted 9/23/07

The men won the Mills Invitational for the second year in a row. The Mills Invitational was held on Saturday September 22 at Mills College in Oakland. We have a new 1st place trophy in our window case in the gym, so come by the PE Complex and check it out.

LPC beat five 4-year colleges in the process. Three of our sophomore student-athletes were offered scholarships right on the spot!

There were so many personal records (PR's) that.... well we have to mention them:

2nd place-- Joey Nunes- PR for the 4 mile on route to a 5 mile PR @ 27:52
3rd — Juan Gomez-- 28:10
4th — Ivan Medina-- 29:07
7th-- Tristan Blair- PR for the 4 mile on route to a 5 mile PR @ 29:32
Jag Kalirai- PR for the 4 mile on route to a 5 mile PR @ 29:39
Ross Mollenkopf-- 31:39
Alex Blue-- PR for the 4 mile on route to a 5 mile PR @ 32:36
John Yersak-- 35:10

Three student-athletes took home individual medals:

Joey Nunes- 2nd place overall (only one gentleman from the contiguous state of Kenya beat him, although 4 year teams do not have to go by the same rules we have)
Juan Gomez- 3rd overall
Ivan Medina- 4th overall

Las PositasCollege Men's Team captured 1st place with 24 points. William Jessup 2nd with 56, Cal-State East Bay 3rd with 76; Simpson College 4th with 86; Holly Names 5th with 107.

Crystal Springs

This past weekend, at the Crystal Springs Invite, our men finished in 6th spot without our 5th man, Ross Mollenkompf, running.. Juan Gomez (Dublin Hi) had a great race as he finished in a time of 22:14, on a very hilly course that is 4.19 miles long (this probably adds a min. to his time). This is 5:26 per mile, again on a hilly course. Of the 137 competitors, we had four runners in the top 30. Parris Hodges again ran a great and determined race. Her 19:50 moves her into second fastest on the "all time list" for LPC (Lynn Pidoli has a 19:40 on Nov. 6, 2004). She finished in 6th spot and is currently ranked 6th in Northern Cal. We look forward to running in the Conference Meet, Nor Cal Meet and the State Meet. You can see our schedule @ LPC's web site. The group of men we have can be the fastest team we have ever had at LPC. We did finish 7th in Nor Cal prior to this and Jerron Clarke was 1st in conference two years ago and 3rd in north. But, this team could and should be our best ever and all but one is a freshman.

Las Positas College Men's Cross Country team places 1st at Mills College Invitational October 13, 2006.
